Turkish prices and how to pay

Stores and subscriptions that price by country open their Turkish region once the VPN is on. PlayStation Store, Spotify and Netflix all charge in lira there. How much you save depends on the store and on the exchange rate, so we won’t name a number.

Turn the VPN on before you create the account, because stores usually record your region at sign-up. Paying is the harder part. The Turkish region usually wants a card issued in Turkey, or top-up codes where the store sells them, as PlayStation Store does. Anonymous cards from Turkish payment apps won’t do. Since late 2023 they only work on Turkish websites.

Finding Turkey in the app

Install the app, open Location and type “Tur” into Find location. Two rows are left, Turkey and Turkmenistan. Choose the first one.

While “Automatically connect when changing location” is checked, the app connects by itself and the main screen switches to Turkey. If you’ve unchecked it, tap Connect.

Change Location window: the country list is open on Turkey

Other countries

A VPN with a server in Turkey comes on the same subscription as every other country, so switch as often as you like.

  • Kazakhstan Almaty, and Russian websites still open
  • USA Oregon, for services that only work in the US
  • Argentina Buenos Aires, Argentine store prices
  • Russia Moscow, Russian services from abroad

If Turkey doesn’t work

Why does the store still show prices from home?

An IP address is only one clue. Stores also look at your account region, your card, the browser language and saved cookies. Check that the app shows Turkey, open the site in a private window and look at the region in your account settings.

My Russian bank won’t open while I’m connected to Turkey

Russian banks and Gosuslugi, Russia’s portal for government services, are wary of foreign addresses. Switch Tunnel to For Russia. Russian sites will then go around the VPN, and everything else stays in Turkey.
