ChatGPT and Gemini don’t work in Russia, and in the United States both are officially available.

Hulu only streams inside the US, and Netflix shows the catalog of the country you’re watching from, so the American one differs from what you see in Europe. Hulu also takes only American payment methods.

Distance you can feel

America is far from Europe and Russia, and ping shows it. Websites and video barely notice the extra fraction of a second, but in online games on European servers the delay is easy to feel. For gaming, pick a country closer to the game’s servers.

If ChatGPT or Netflix blocks you

ChatGPT won’t let me in with the USA selected

ChatGPT often turns away addresses from big data centers, American ones included. Try a private browser window first. If that doesn’t help, switch to Kazakhstan or Turkey. The ChatGPT guide has more tips, in Russian.

Netflix says I’m using a proxy

Netflix knows plenty of VPN server addresses and blocks them. Disconnect, then tap Replace servers in Account → Settings, and you get new addresses in every country. Sometimes that’s enough, but Netflix tends to find the new ones sooner or later.
