VPN for Windows 7
The VanyaVPN app doesn’t install on Windows 7. It needs Windows 11 or a Windows 10 build no older than 1607. You can still put the VPN on your phone, or connect the old computer through your router.
If you’ve upgraded to 10 or 11, download the installer
What you can do instead
Only the router gets you a working VPN for Windows 7 without upgrading the system, and it’s also the most work.
The quickest option is your phone. VanyaVPN has iPhone and Android apps on the same subscription. Unless your Apple ID is Russian, that’s an ordinary App Store install, and if it is Russian, the workarounds are on the phone page.
If the computer can handle Windows 10 or 11, upgrade it and the regular installer will work, with the same steps as on the Windows 10 page.
A router with the VPN set up covers the whole household, the old computer included. The Router section of your account gives you a login and password for PPTP and OpenVPN, along with an .ovpn file and a version made for Keenetic. One login works on one router at a time. Note that some internet providers in Russia block both protocols. Router models are covered on the router page.

Why it works this way
Why won’t the app run on Windows 7?
The app runs on Windows 10 version 1607 or later and on Windows 11. On Windows 7 and 8 the installer checks the system first and stops instead of installing something that won’t start.
What about the old version that did install on Windows 7?
It won’t connect anymore. Since September 13, 2026, the service only works with app version 1.20 or later, and none of those install on Windows 7.
Does it work on Windows 8 or 8.1?
No. The installer requires Windows 10 or newer, so a Windows 8 machine has the same options.
